More Information:
In addition to having quilts to admire and quilts to purchase, there will be a table of gently used books, patterns, fabrics and quilting gizmos. And for those with a sweet tooth, there will be a pantry/bake table.
Quilters: Would you like to display a quilt (or several) for admiration or for sale? Would you like to sell your gently used quilting items or some fabric that you rashly bought and never used? Items sold will be subject to a 20% commission to go to the church – please price your items clearly. We will keep track for you. Email Janet at (janet@novascotiaquilts.com) or call Grace at 679-7128.
Enjoy a wonderful day out among friendly people in a beautiful heritage country church.
The History of the Quilts at the Harbour Quilt Show:
It’s hard to believe that our community will be hosting the 11th annual Quilts at the Harbour Quilt Show and Sale this coming September.
Our Quilt Show started as a small one day affair with no idea how successful we would be – we approached many community members to show their family heritage quilts and enlisted the help of quiltmakers in our community and surrounding areas to exhibit quilts for sale.
We have gradually grown from year to year and early on focused our fundraising efforts on behalf of the small rural United Baptist Church which dates to 1840. This lovely heritage church is worth a visit in itself to see the original church furnishings and enjoy its atmosphere – it is a fitting setting for our quilt show, and one of the deacons will be on hand to discuss church history, burials and geneology with you.
Last year as we wound the show up, we were discussing how to raise more funds for the church in light of the fact that the space cannot be expanded further and hit upon the idea of hosting a second show on the July 1st Canada Day holiday. Our community already hosts many activities that day — a chicken BBQ, fireman’s breakfast, Chinese auction, wharfside musical entertainment and finally a giant fireworks display. We decided a quilt show would be a good plan, so are going with this idea this year. Please help us make it a success!
